For commercial EICRs across Gloucester, ElectricsFixed is here to help.
Our fully qualified electricians can renew your EICR and carry out remedial works if required. Commercial properties are required to have a valid EICR every five years, or sooner for high risk settings. EICRs are an essential part of electrical maintenance and flag potentially harmful electrical faults keeping your property and your employees safe. EICRs are also formal proof, you, as an employer, have taken all the necessary steps to provide a safe working environment - without this, you could be liable if a workplace incident involving electricity occurs.
EICRs explained
If you’re unfamiliar with the term EICR, this section of the blog is for you! An EICR, stands for Electrical Installation Condition Report. As the name suggests, it’s a report which looks at the condition of your electrical installations within your property. The report can only be conducted by a fully qualified electrician who will use a combination of visual inspections and professional electrical testing equipment to complete the EICR. The EICR uses codes to grade any faults or concerns detected by the electrician. These codes include:
- C1 - danger present, immediate remedial work required.
- C2 - potentially dangerous, remedial work should be scheduled.
- C3 - improvement recommended. Not dangerous but no longer complaint.
- FI (further investigation). If you spot an FI note, your electrician needs to conduct further testing before he grades the fault or concern.
A failed EICR will be noted as ‘unsatisfactory’. The presence of any C1, C2, or FI code will result in failure. To pass, remedial works will need to be completed within 28 days and after a new EICR has been carried out, you’ll then receive a pass in the form of a certificate.
Electricians tip: Make sure you keep copies of all documents, most importantly the passed certificate. This is proof you’ve taken the necessary steps to ensure your workplace is safe and fully compliant.
Failed EICR? Here’s what you need to do:
A failed EICR is not the end of the world. You don’t need to panic; our electrician will explain what’s caused the failure and what next steps you need to take to get that all important pass. For serious faults, we’ll do our best to fix the issue there and then. If we need to obtain a special piece of equipment, or need a little more time, we’ll get you booked in as soon as possible. Don’t worry though, we’ll temporarily make the fault safe until we return. To summarise, if you're handed a failed EICR, here’s what to do:
- Stay calm and listen to your electrician.
- Ask questions. The better you understand the situation, the less stressful the process will be.
- Ensure you book in for remedial works within 28 days.
- Do not use installations we deem unsafe.
